PM expressed grief over the demise of Sunil Jain

Ground Report | New Delhi: Senior journalist and managing editor of Financial Express Sunil Jain died on Saturday. He was infected with the COVID-19 virus, his sister Sandhya Jain said. 

Jain was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for treatment after being found infected with COVID-19.

Sandhya Jain tweeted, “We lost my brother Sunil Jain this evening to Covid+ its complications. Doctors, staff at AIIMS battled heroically, but the demon was too powerful. May Tirthankaras guide his onward journey; deep gratitude to all who stood by us in these darkest days.”

He was said to have suffered a cardiac arrest on Saturday morning, but survived it. However, at 8:30 in the evening, he again got the same attack, in which he died.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted and expressed grief over the demise of Sunil Jain. He wrote, “You left us too soon, Sunil Jain. I would miss to read your columns and listen to your clear and practical views on various matters. You have left behind an inspiring category of work. Journalism has weakened today due to your sad demise. Condolences to family and friends. om Shanti.” 

President Ram Nath Kovind said Jain was known for his candour and forthright views. “It was a treat to read his columns. After his untimely demise, his absence will be deeply felt in the world of journalism. My condolences to his family and friends,” he tweeted.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman expressed shock and offered her condolences to his family and friends. Commerce and Industry minister Piyush Goyal said Jain was “an inspiration and somebody who inspired generation of journalists”.

Press Club of India tweeted and expressed grief over the demise of Sunil Jain.

The Press Club is saddened at the passing of Sunil Jain due to post-covid complications this evening. He was managing editor of the Financial Express and had worked with Business Standard, Indian Express & India Today earlier.

We deeply mourn his passing. May he rest in peace

On May 3, he had tweeted about getting an admission to the AIIMS in Delhi. “Thank you everyone for all the help. I don’t even know whom. All to thank. Am in AIIMS emergency now. So I’m safe hands.”
