“खूब लड़ी मर्दानी वो तो झाँसी वाली रानी थी” ये पंक्तियाँ सुभद्रा कुमारी जी की कविता से ली गयी हैं। ये पंक्तियाँ आज भी हर किसी की जुबान पर उतने ही उत्साह और आदर के साथ कही जाती है, जितना गर्व हमे रानी लक्ष्मी बाई पर है। भारतवर्ष की सर्वश्रेष्ठ स्वतंत्रता सेनानी रानी लक्ष्मी बाई(Rani Lakshmi Bai), जो “झाँसी की रानी” के नाम से सुप्रसिद्ध हैं। वे महिला सशक्तिकरण का एक बेजोड़ उदहारण हैं। भारत के इतिहास में उनके जैसा प्रसिद्ध, दृढ़ निश्चयी और धैर्यवान दूसरा कोई नहीं हुआ। वे भारत की ‘जोन ऑफ आर्क’ कहलाईं। स्वतंत्रता की पहली लड़ाई झाँसी की रानी ने ही लड़ी।
भारत के इतिहास में लक्ष्मीबाई अंग्रेजों से बेहद बहादुरी से लड़ीं, और अपना पथ-तोड़ प्रभाव स्थापित कर गईं।
