Ground Report | New Delhi: Modi’s Twitter account hack; The National Nodal Agency, which monitors the country’s cyber security, has contacted Twitter and Google in the matter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Twitter account being hacked.

The Indian Express in its report said that the Indian Computer Emergency Response System (CERT-In) has started its ‘large-scale investigation’. Significantly, at around 2.15 pm on Sunday night, two tweets related to bitcoin were made from the account of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which were deleted after a few minutes.

The newspaper quoted sources as saying that Twitter has been asked why its automated system did not report the violation when someone tried to open the account. Apart from this, in a tweet related to bitcoin, information has been sought from Google regarding the link to the Blogspot account.

An official of the Ministry of Information Technology told the newspaper, “We would like to know from Twitter and Google their views on the incident. It is expected that CERT-In will soon submit its investigation report to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.” (Modi’s Twitter account hack)

He also told that the matter will be investigated under the leadership of a Joint Secretary level officer. When the newspaper contacted Twitter on Sunday, it said, “According to our investigation to date, it appears that the account has not been compromised by any of our Twitter systems.”

Responding to questions, a company spokesperson said, “Our lines for contact with the Prime Minister’s Office are operational round the clock and seven days a day and as soon as we learned of the tampering, our teams were able to secure the account. Our investigation has revealed that there is no indication of any other account being affected at this time.”

After this tweet came from Prime Minister Modi’s personal Twitter account, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) clarified the matter by tweeting at 3.18 am on Sunday.

The PMO wrote, ‘The Twitter handle of PM Narendra Modi was tampered with for a while. The issue was raised on Twitter and the account was immediately secured. The account was compromised for a short time, tweets made during this period should be ignored.
