PM Modi security Lapse: Punjab rally cancelled

Ground Report | New Delhi: PM Modi security Lapse; The Union Home Ministry says that Prime Minister Narendra Modi could not attend the rally in Punjab’s Ferozepur on Wednesday due to a security lapse.

PM Modi security Lapse

The Home Ministry has said, “When Prime Minister Modi’s convoy reached a flyover, about 30 km from the National Martyrs Memorial in Hussainiwala, it was found that some protesters have blocked the road. The Prime Minister was stuck on the flyover for 15 to 20 minutes. This was a big lapse in PM Modi’s security.

According to news agency PTI, due to this major security lapse, PM Modi’s convoy decided to return to Bathinda airport. The Ministry of Home Affairs has said that this matter has been taken seriously and a report has been sought from the Government of Punjab.

According to news agency PTI, BJP chief JP Nadda has accused the Congress government of Punjab of making every effort to obstruct PM Modi’s programs due to fear of defeat in the elections.

Nadda said that the Punjab Chief Secretary and DGP had assured the SPG that there would be no problem in the way of the Prime Minister’s convoy. But the protesters were allowed to come in the way of PM Modi’s convoy and this is a big security lapse.

JP Nadda said that Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi did not even talk on the phone regarding this matter. Nadda alleged that Punjab Police was instructed to stop people from attending PM Modi’s rally.

Here is the full MHA statement:

“Today morning PM landed at Bathinda from where he was to go to National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala by helicopter. Due to rain and poor visibility, PM waited for about 20 minutes for the weather to clear out. When the weather didn’t improve, it was decided that he would visit the National Martyrs Memorial via road, which would take more than 2 hours. He proceeded to travel by road after necessary confirmation of necessary security arrangements by the DGP Punjab Police.

“Around 30 kms away from National Martyrs Memorial in Hussainiwala, when the PM’s convoy reached a flyover, it was found that the road was blocked by some protestors. The PM was stuck on a flyover for 15-20 minutes. This was a major lapse in the security of PM.
