Weather update: Heatwave expected in several regions across India

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of heatwave conditions in multiple regions, raising concerns for public health and safety. Interior Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, East Jharkhand, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, East Telangana, North Interior Tamil Nadu, and North Interior Karnataka are among the areas expected to experience high temperatures in the coming days.

Orange alert areas identified

IMD has specifically identified Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Telangana, and North Interior Karnataka as “orange alert” areas, indicating a higher risk of heat-related health issues.

While moderate temperatures are forecasted for these regions, vulnerable individuals, such as infants and the elderly, are advised to take precautionary measures. To combat heat exposure, people are urged to stay indoors, remain hydrated, and consume homemade drinks like lassi, rice water, lemon water, and buttermilk.

Heat wave conditions are anticipated in isolated pockets over North Tamil Nadu, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Telangana, and Interior Karnataka.

The IMD’s weather forecast also indicates the presence of a cyclonic circulation over East Assam, resulting in rainfall, snowfall, thunderstorms, and lightning in Arunachal Pradesh.

Similar weather patterns are expected in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from today until April 10th, with isolated heavy rainfall predicted in Arunachal Pradesh.

Temperature trends

While maximum temperatures in South India are expected to remain relatively stable over the next two days, a gradual decrease of 2-3°C is projected over the subsequent three days. Minimum temperatures, however, are higher than normal by 3-5°C in isolated areas across various regions.

Warm night conditions are anticipated in isolated pockets of North Interior Karnataka and Odisha, while hot and humid weather is likely in Kerala, Mahe, coastal areas of Gujarat, Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema from today until April 11th.

In light of the heat wave warnings and prevailing weather conditions, authorities emphasize the importance of taking appropriate safety measures. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and seek shelter in cool environments.
