Ground Report | New Delhi: Govt ready for discussion; Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over the all-party meeting on 18 July ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament starting from 19 July. PM Modi sought cooperation from all parties in running the house. Prime Minister Modi said, “There should be a discussion in the House in a meaningful and peaceful manner. The government is ready for discussion on every issue. The cooperation of all parties is needed for the smooth running of the House.”

Prime Minister Modi said that people’s representatives should give suggestions to the government on important topics, this leads to a meaningful debate. The monsoon session will start from July 19 and will continue till August 13.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister, and Rajya Sabha leader Piyush Goyal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi attended the meeting.

Parliamentary leaders of more than 33 political parties participated in the all-party meeting. Mallikarjun Kharge and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury from Congress joined it.

Derek O’Brien from Trinamool Congress, Ram Gopal Yadav from Samajwadi Party, and Satish Chandra Mishra from BSP participated. Apna Dal leader Anupriya Patel and LJP leader Pashupati Paras from NDA allies attended the meeting. (Govt ready for discussion)

In the meeting, the opposition parties raised the issue of rising prices of petrol and diesel from agriculture law. There are media reports that opposition parties have demanded from the government to bring OBC reservation in NEET.

At the same time, the parties of Punjab have raised the demand to bring back three agricultural laws. Harsimrat Badal will move the adjournment motion on July 19, which has got the support of all the opposition parties.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has held a meeting with the leaders of the parties in the House regarding the monsoon session starting from July 19. Apart from this, many big leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh have held a meeting of NDA in Parliament House.

On July 18, Congress President Sonia Gandhi will also hold a virtual meeting with party MPs.
