What is Sulli Deals app?

Sulli Deals’ app, which was launched last year, posted pictures of Muslim women and listed them for ‘auction’. These pictures taken without permission were also tampered with.

GitHub, an open-source platform, allows users to create and share apps. But it is not clear who created the app called Sulli Deals.  GitHub COO Erica Brescia tweeted that the app has been removed from GitHub. But the company has not made any official statement on the matter.

The app featured the face of a Muslim woman and a slogan underneath that read “Sulli’s Deal of the Day.” ‘Sulli’ is a derogatory term used against women. (Omkareshwar Thakur Sulli deals)

The creators of the application would use the photos obtained illegally from women’s social networks and convince people to participate in the “auction”.

“Bulli Bai”, created on GitHub, appeared on January 1, along with a number of photos of women including journalists, social workers, students and famous people, accompanied by derogatory content. Like “Bulli Bai”, the “Sulli Deals” were also hosted on GitHub.
