Ground Report | New Delhi: Farooq Abdullah It’s been; A month after Prime Minister Narendra Modi met politicians from the mainstream politics of Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah on Sunday said that “talks on the ground have not progressed”.
In a conversation with news agency PTI, former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah said this on Prime Minister Modi’s statement of June 24 in which it was said that he wants to win the hearts of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
In this meeting with the politicians of Jammu and Kashmir in New Delhi, Prime Minister Modi had said that he wants to erase ‘Dilli ki Doori’ and ‘Dil ki Doori’.

Farooq Abdullah, three-time Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, said, “A commendable statement was made but no effort was made to win the hearts of the people on the ground. People are still in jails and the voices raised against them have to be heard.” It is not being tolerated. We want to see a change on the ground. Abolition of special status in one stroke and those who are shocked by the division of the state should be seen trying to win.”
He said, “But even after a month, we are waiting for things to move forward. Trust between Delhi and Srinagar is something that is not visible. From Jawaharlal Nehru to Vajpayee, all the Prime Ministers made promises but kept the trust.”
Farooq Abdullah said that he and his party attended the meeting in Delhi because there was an invitation from the Prime Minister for this. However, he also says that he had no hope from this meeting.

Farooq Abdullah insisted that assembly elections should be held by giving full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. All major political parties have demanded from the Center that it should prove its goodness by showing agreement on this issue.
When asked whether the National Conference would participate if the central government decided to hold elections without giving full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah replied, “We will decide when the time comes.”
When asked about the future of the Gupkar alliance of six political parties in mainstream politics of Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah said, “We are together… we are all involved in it. We have not left it.”
