The entire picture of the devastation caused by flash floods in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand is gradually coming to the fore. So far 26 corpses have been recovered, but the time to save at least 170 missing people alive is running out.
Nearly two days have passed since the floods, but army, paramilitary and disaster management forces are still engaged in searching the missing people. Most of the 170 missing people are laborers who were working in two power projects in the area. Among them, Tapovan Vishnugarh project belongs to NTPC and Rishiganga project is private.

According to information received from the state emergency control room, 26 dead bodies have been found so far from both the sites. Further rescue operations are centered around the NTPC project, where at least 35 people are feared trapped in a 1900 meter long tunnel. The flood water entered the tunnel and then the debris that came with the flood closed the mouth of the tricolor.

Apart from the people working on the project, many residents of Raini village settled there were also washed away. They too are still missing. It is possible that some of them are also trapped in this tunnel.
Several bridges of the area were also broken in the floods, due to which contact with some villages was lost. The administration is busy in providing relief material to those villages.

Senior journalist Hridayesh Joshi tweeted a video from the area and told that army and agencies personnel are present in such areas.
Along with this, studies are also being done about the reasons for the sudden arrival of floods. Teams of scientists have been sent to the scene, but their findings will be revealed only after thorough study. Till then, an attempt is being made to understand the situation based on the photographs obtained from different satellites.
