Ground Report | New Delhi: Nine-year-old girl raped; A nine-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and then forcibly cremated at a crematorium in Delhi on Sunday night. The incident has come to light in Nangal village of south-west Delhi in which the police have arrested four people, including the priest who takes care of the crematorium.

The police had registered a case in this under sections of death due to negligence and destruction of evidence, but later other sections were added under the murder, sexual violence, and POCSO Act. The postmortem of the body could not be done as it had already been cremated.

The newspaper writes that the girl was the daughter of a garbage collector and her family lived in a rented room opposite the cremation ground.

Nine-year-old girl raped

According to the police, at 5.30 pm, the girl had gone to the crematorium to fill water after informing her mother. At 6 o’clock the priest of the cremation ground and three people came to her mother and told her that her daughter had died due to electrocution from the water cooler.

Injit Pratap Singh, DCP (South West) quoted the girl’s mother as saying that the four accused had stopped the girl’s mother from informing the police. The accused had told the girl’s mother that this would lead to a police case and her organs would be removed during the postmortem.

However, a crowd gathered on the spot and the police were informed. After four people were taken into custody, forensic and crime teams were called to conduct a search at the site of death.

On Monday afternoon, local residents and members of the Safai Karamcharis Union blocked the road from Delhi Cantonment to Janakpuri in protest and raised slogans against the police. He demanded a proper investigation into the death and ensure justice to the family.
