Ground Report | New Delhi: Weapons used in Russia Ukraine war; Russian troops are traversing Ukrainian territory with their artillery and tanks. Airstrikes and missiles are also being fired at cities. Rockets are being fired as well as artillery shells at cities and other military installations.

Numerous Ukrainian civilians and soldiers have been killed and wounded in the attacks. Ordinary citizens are forced to flee Ukraine and seek refuge in neighbouring countries. In this war, Russian and Ukrainian forces take a look at the weapons used during the attacks:

Warships and missiles

The Russian military continues to use calibre cruise missiles in addition to bombing fighter jets and has targeted numerous locations throughout Ukraine. Military installations in the Ukrainian cities of Kyiv and Kharkiv, as well as urban areas, were targeted. The Russian military is also using the Alexander missile, which has a range of up to 500 kilometres. Some Alexander missiles were also fired from Belarus.

Weapons used in Russia Ukraine war

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other government officials have accused Russia of firing indiscriminately on civilian areas. Their shells and rockets also hit school buildings and hospitals.

Several locations in Kharkiv, the second-largest Ukrainian city, were hit by rockets. Soviet-made Grad (Hale), Sumerian (Tornado) and Aragan (Hurricane) rockets are also being used in combat. The rockets were intended to destroy large military areas.

The Russian military continues to use powerful Soviet-era artillery. These cannons include two hundred and three-millimetre peonies and one hundred and fifty-two millimetre highest cannons.

Ukrainian officials have accused Russia of using thermobaric bombs where it dropped cluster bombs during the war. Such weapons are often used to target the enemy’s vast military territory. Fuel containers are used in thermobaric weapons and throwing them causes two explosions. The first detonates the fuel and the second explodes, absorbing oxygen from the atmosphere and setting the dispersed fuel on fire.

The Pentagon says mobile launchers have been identified inside Ukraine with thermobaric weapons. Their use has not yet been confirmed. The Ukrainian military relies heavily on Soviet-era multiple rocket launchers. There are also Howitzer cannons. There are also Soviet-era Tokhka short-range missiles used by the Ukrainian military in this war. All of these weapons are from the Soviet era and are old.
