At least 18 covid patients have died due to fire in a hospital in Bharuch, Gujarat in the early hours on Saturday.

The pictures of the fire in the hospital are horrifying. When there was a fire in the four-storey hospital, 50 patients were present. The fire started around 1 pm. The rest of the patients were evacuated with the help of local people and firefighters.

A police officer said that till 6.30 in the morning the death toll was 18. Earlier 12 people were confirmed dead.

Bharuch SP Rajendrasinh Chudasama said that 12 patients died of suffocation. He said that it is not clear whether the remaining 6 people have also died or they have been shifted to another hospital.

The accident occurred at Patel Welfare Hospital in Bharuch between 12.30 am and 01 pm. As soon as the information of the incident was received, the fire brigade vehicles reached the spot to extinguish the fire. It is being told that the first floor of Patel Welfare Hospital was made a Covid Care Center for Corona patients.

The fire was brought under control within an hour and with the help of fire fighters and locals, at least 50 people have been safely rescued and treated in the hospital. 

PM Narendra Modi, CM Vijay Rupani Express Condolences

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the death of patients who died in the fire accident at Bharuch Hospital and said, “Pained by the loss of lives due to a fire at a hospital in Bharuch. Condolences to the bereaved families.”

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani took to Twitter to express his condolences and announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh to the victims’ families.

CM Vijay Rupani said “I express my condolences to the patients, doctors and hospital staff who lost their lives in the fire accident at Bharuch Hospital. The state government will provide assistance of Rs 4 lakh to the families of each of the victims of the accident.”
