The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided not to organize a Ranji tournament for the first time in 87 years. Instead, the decision to organize Vijay Hazare Trophy has been taken with the consent of the cricket associations of the states.

BCCI secretary Jai Shah had written a letter to the state cricket associations asking for opinion regarding the Ranji or Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Apart from Vijay Hazare, the BCCI will also organize Vinoo Maakand Under-19 National ODI Tournament and Women’s National 50 Over Tournament (Senior Women’s ODI Tournament).

Jai Shah has mentioned in his letter how difficult it is to organize domestic cricket in this post-covid era.

Jai Shah has written in a letter to the cricket associations, “I am very happy to tell you that we are going to host the Vijay Hazare tournament and the Vinoo Mankad Trophy Under-19 National ODI tournament as well as the Senior Women’s ODI tournament. This decision has been taken only in view of your responses on the domestic session 2020-21.”
