Bhopal’s district administration has ordered surprise inspections of LPG gas agencies across the district after receiving repeated complaints of overcharging, illegal storage, and safety violations.
The Collector issued a formal order on April 3, 2026, directing all Sub-Divisional Magistrates and Tehsildars to conduct intensive inspections of gas agencies in their areas on April 4, 2026.
What Triggered the Action
Residents across several areas of Bhopal had filed complaints alleging that gas dealers were charging more than the government-prescribed price for cylinder deliveries and failing to meet safety standards. The administration described the complaints as continuous and took serious note before issuing the crackdown order.
What Officials Will Check
Inspectors have been directed to verify five specific areas during their visits. They will check whether agencies clearly display current stock levels and official domestic and commercial gas prices on their information boards.
They will also weigh cylinders on electronic scales to confirm that gas content meets prescribed standards. Officials will cross-check physical stock against online portal records to detect illegal hoarding.
Inspectors will examine whether consumers are being charged more than the approved rate for home delivery. They will also look for the misuse of domestic cylinders in place of commercial ones and any illegal refilling activity.
The order states that any violations found during inspections will attract strict legal action under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. All inspecting officers have been asked to submit reports to the Collector’s office after completing their rounds.
The order was issued under the authority of the Additional District Magistrate, Bhopal, and copies have been sent to all Sub-Divisional Revenue Officers, Tehsildars, and the District Supply Controller for coordination.
The inspections cover all major gas agencies operating within Bhopal district.
