A six-year-old boy and an adult man died after lightning struck Banjari village in Barghat’s Mandi area on Friday night. Pranshu Markam, aged six, and Ramzan Khan were killed in the strike. The incident occurred in Dundasivni block of Seoni district.

Rain and strong winds hit Satna early Saturday morning, bringing thunder and lightning. Drizzle followed in Narmadapuram, while Maihar received rainfall that disrupted morning commuters heading to offices and schools.

Wheat fields along the Rampur Maniakheri Road in Raisen suffered damage as storms swept through overnight. Farmers in the region have already seen repeated crop losses this season after hail and rain battered more than 45 districts in the second half of March, destroying wheat, papaya and banana crops.

What the Weather Department Says

The Madhya Pradesh weather department has placed 45 districts under thunderstorm and rain alert for the next 24 hours. Two cyclonic circulations are active over the western and northern parts of the state. One weather trough is cutting through the centre of MP, while a second runs across the upper portion.

Storms will continue for four days, until April 7. Wind speeds will reach between 50 and 60 kmph in the worst-hit districts, with speeds of 30 to 40 kmph expected elsewhere.

Jabalpur, Chhatarpur, Panna, Damoh and Katni face a specific hailstorm alert today.

A western disturbance will become active from April 7 and is expected to bring further thunderstorms and rain to parts of the state until around April 10.

Once that system clears, temperatures will climb sharply. In the final week of April, Gwalior, Dhar, Khargone, Barwani and the Naugaon-Khajuraho belt could see maximum temperatures hit 44 to 45 degrees Celsius. Districts including Datia, Morena, Sheopur, Barwani and Khargone will also see a steep rise in heat, driven by hot winds that typically dominate the southern and western zones of MP in April and May.

Madhya Pradesh has seen weather swing sharply since February. The state recorded four separate rounds of storms in February and March alone. January brought no rain at all, but hail and storms from February onward repeatedly damaged standing crops.

March started hot before turning stormy in the second half. Thunderstorms hit more than 45 districts and hail struck 17 between March 15 and 20. A further round on March 29 and 30 brought hail to half the state.

Residents across MP are being urged to stay indoors during peak storm hours and avoid open fields and tall trees until the alert period ends on April 7.
