Viral Video: What Is the Story Behind the Crows Over Tel Aviv?

A video purportedly showing hundreds of crows flying in circles above Tel Aviv has spread rapidly on social media, triggering alarm among users who linked the imagery to ongoing conflict in the region. The footage has not been verified.

The clip, shared widely on X and other platforms, shows a large flock of crows hovering above what is claimed to be Tel Aviv. Neither the location nor the authenticity of the video has been confirmed. Some users suggested the footage may have been captured elsewhere, while others raised the possibility it was generated using artificial intelligence.

What the Video Actually Shows

Large gatherings of crows are a documented natural phenomenon. Thousands of crows flocking together, sometimes called a murder, is commonly linked to communal roosting in winter months, when birds gather in urban areas for warmth and safety. Crows also mob perceived predators, gather around dead members of their group, and congregate near high-value food sources.

There is no scientific basis for linking crow behaviour to impending danger or conflict.

Why It Spread So Fast

The video circulated at a sensitive moment. Israel and the United States carried out a preemptive strike on Iran on February 28. Iran subsequently launched retaliatory attacks against Israeli and US assets in the region. Against that backdrop, many social media users interpreted the footage through a cultural or religious lens.

“In many cultures, the flight of this type of bird is seen as an omen, a sign that something is about to happen,” one X user wrote, a post that was widely reshared.

What Has Been Confirmed

No official body in Israel has issued any warning linked to the video. No scientific or ornithological organisation has described the footage as unusual. No verified source has confirmed the video was filmed in Tel Aviv.

It is not confirmed where or when the footage was recorded. It is not confirmed whether the video is authentic or digitally altered.

The video is viral. The event it claims to show is not proven. The reaction it triggered reflects the high anxiety surrounding the current conflict, not any verified threat. Viewers are advised to treat the footage with caution until its origin and authenticity are independently confirmed.
