Madhya Pradesh is bracing for its fourth spell of rain this month as a low pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal combines with an active trough passing through the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhopal has issued warnings of rain, thunderstorms, and lightning for eight eastern districts on Monday.
The districts under alert are Sidhi, Singrauli, Shahdol, Umaria, Anuppur, Mandla, Dindori, and Balaghat.
What Is Driving the Weather
IMD Bhopal confirmed that a low pressure system remains active over the southwest Bay of Bengal. A trough running through the region is amplifying its effect over Madhya Pradesh. The combination of these two systems is pushing unseasonal rain into the state’s eastern belt.
Weather conditions shifted across several southern districts on Sunday, with eastern areas expected to bear the impact on Monday.
The weather department had previously issued an alert on February 22 for a western disturbance affecting the western Himalayan region. That system moved further ahead without delivering significant rainfall. As it passed, the low pressure area and trough became active, setting up fresh conditions for rain.
A Month of Repeated Weather Events
This latest spell marks the fourth weather disruption in February alone. In the first week of the month, two separate episodes brought hail, rain, and thunderstorms to the state, causing widespread crop damage. The government launched a survey of affected agricultural land following those events.
A third spell began on February 18, with its effects continuing through February 19, 20, and 21. Rain on February 23 now extends that disruption further.
The repeated rainfall has pulled daytime temperatures down across the state. Night-time cold also persisted, though some relief from cold winds was reported on Sunday.
Pachmarhi recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 10.2 degrees Celsius on Saturday night. Rajgarh followed at 11 degrees, Kalyanpur at 11.2 degrees, Karondi at 11.4 degrees, and Mandsaur at 11.5 degrees. Temperatures in most other districts remained higher.
