A new western disturbance is driving severe weather across 15 districts of Madhya Pradesh, bringing rain, thunderstorms and lightning, with the strongest impact expected on February 18.

15 Districts on High Alert

The Meteorological Department has issued alerts for Gwalior, Sheopur, Morena, Bhind, Datia, Shivpuri, Guna, Ashoknagar, Rajgarh, Agar-Malwa, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Niwari, Tikamgarh and Chhatarpur. Residents in these areas should expect heavy rain, thunder and lightning through Tuesday night and Wednesday.

Clouds are already building over Gwalior and Chambal on Tuesday. The rain picks up on February 18 before tapering to light drizzle on February 19. No heavy downpour is expected on the 19th.

This marks the third bout of disruptive weather the state has faced in February alone. Earlier in the month, hailstorms and thunderstorms struck twice, causing significant damage to standing crops. The state government surveyed the affected farmland after both events.

The current system will weaken after February 18. As it passes, daytime temperatures in Gwalior, Chambal and Sagar divisions could dip by one to two degrees Celsius due to cloud cover.

What to Expect on February 17 and 18

On February 17, clouds will cover parts of the state, but Bhopal and Indore will still feel the heat during the day. February 18 is the day to watch โ€” all 15 alert districts face rain, thunderstorms and lightning. The system then loses strength, bringing only light drizzle on February 19.

Nights remain cold across the state despite warm afternoons. The coldest reading on the Sunday-Monday night was recorded in Karondi, Katni, where the mercury fell to 6.7 degrees Celsius. Kalyanpur and Pachmarhi logged 7.6 degrees, while Rajgarh touched 9 degrees.

Among the state’s five major cities, Bhopal recorded the lowest minimum at 12.6 degrees Celsius. Indore and Jabalpur both registered 13 degrees, Gwalior came in at 13.1 degrees, and Ujjain stood at 13.4 degrees.

The cold nights will continue for now. Most cities will see overnight lows staying above 10 degrees Celsius, while afternoon highs could climb past 30 degrees in some areas โ€” a sharp contrast that defines MP’s February weather pattern.
