She has been associated with the party for over 18 years and is the Secretary-General of its women’s wing. “I was not aware of my selection for the party’s MLC candidate. Some workers from RJD came to my house and told me about the development. I don’t even have a cell phone”, Munni Devi, who belongs to the Rajak community said.

Former MLA party and current spokesperson Shakti Yadav said Rajak’s candidacy was similar to that of former RJD MP Bhagwati Devi, a stonecutter whose political talents were identified by Lalu Prasad.

“We are the political descendants of Lohia, who had put up a mehtarani (sweeper woman) against a maharani (a queen, an allusion to Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia of Gwalior),” Yadav was quoted as saying on NDTV.

Munni said that Lalu does not do castism but Dalitism, RJD has announced the names of its three candidates for the Bihar Legislative Council elections. Among the three RJD candidates, Munni Devi’s name is the most striking.

Devi said that the people of Bihar are still with Lalu Prasad. Munni Devi said that after going to the House, she will work to speak out against inflation and unemployment. On the other hand, Tej Pratap Yadav welcomed Munni Devi at the Rabri residence and introduced her to Geeta. Tej Pratap Yadav had gone to drop Munni Devi home in his car when Munni Devi arrived at Rabri’s residence, without any means.
