A speeding car crushed people involved in a religious procession in Chhattisgarh’s Jashpur district. In Jashpur’s Pathalgaon, about 150 people were going for Durga immersion in the form of a procession. One person died on the spot due to the collision of the car, while 26 people were injured. Four of the injured are in critical condition. The car was loaded with ganja and the smugglers were taking it from Odisha to Singrauli in Madhya Pradesh.

After the incident, people set the car on fire. During the investigation, it has come to know that both the accused were coming by crushing someone earlier also. Some people were chasing them and due to this, the speed of the car was very fast. However, the information about the one who was crushed earlier could not be found.

Jashpur SP has also attached the line to Pathalgaon TI. The BJP has announced the closure of the district for one day on Saturday in protest against the incident. The BJP has demanded the suspension of the SP and the assistance of one crore rupees to the family of the deceased.

The video of this horrible incident is viral on Twitter. People giving it a religious angle and trending a hashtag #BaghelKillingHindus. People also relating this with the Lakheempur case where Union Minister’s son allegedly crushed protesting farmers with his car.

On social media, people are asking whether Rahul and Priyanka will go there to meet victims’ kin.

Important points of Jashpur Chattisgarh case

The accident took place in Pathalgaon at around 1.30 pm on Friday. At that time people were taking the idols of 7 Durga pandals to the river bank for immersion. Then a car coming from behind in the middle of the market crushed the people involved in the procession. A young man named Gaurav Aggarwal (21) died on the spot due to the collision of the car, while 4 people playing the band were seriously injured.

After the incident, people chased and caught the driver of the car from Sukhrapara, 5 km away. Angry people beat him fiercely. People also set ablaze the car that hit it. With great difficulty, the police rescued the accused from the crowd. While saving him from the mob, the police took him to Kapu police station in Raigad district. Seeing the anger of the people, police has been deployed on the spot. Two accused have been arrested in this case.

Collector Ritesh Agarwal has appealed to the people to maintain peace regarding the incident. He has said that action will definitely be taken against the culprits. Police have arrested two accused. Action will be taken against the rest of the culprits on the basis of their interrogation.
