The head of BJP’s Rajasthan unit, Satish Poonia, accused Rajasthan Cheif Minister Ashok Gehlot of failing to cut VAT on petrol and diesel despite the fact that the Narendra Modi-led government in the Center cut excise duties.
He stated that around 1,500 petrol pumps have been closed in 17 border districts of the state. This is because the high cost of fuel has increased the smuggling of auto fuel from neighbouring states.
Satish Poonia said on Wednesday that in all states governed by Congress, including Rajasthan, the VAT rate on petrol and diesel is the highest in the country, forcing the common man to buy car fuel at higher rates.
Poonia said that in many districts of other states around Rajasthan, the VAT is much lower than in the desert state, so the oil mafia is bringing petrol and diesel from other states and selling them in Rajasthan. Because of this, the state government is also losing revenue. Also, the common man faces the burden of inflation.
Petrol and diesel prices were flat for the 21st day in a row on April 27. Since the end of a four-and-a-half-month pause in tariff review on March 22, petrol and diesel tariffs have increased by Rs. 10 per liter each through 14 revisions. Fuel prices rose for the last time on April 6 by 80 paise per liter each.
According to a price notice from fuel retailers, Petrol in Delhi costs Rs 105.41 per liter and diesel Rs 96.67 per litre.
In Mumbai, petrol and diesel prices per liter are Rs 120.51 and Rs 104.77, respectively. In Chennai, petrol costs 110.85 rupees per liter and diesel costs 100.94 rupees per litre. In Kolkata, gasoline costs Rs 115.12 per liter and diesel Rs 99.83 per litre.
