Ground Report | New Delhi: A central government advisory says aerosols can travel up to 10 meters in the air, so skylights should be open indoors to prevent covid infection so that ventilation can take place properly. The risk of infection in open houses is less. This advisory has been issued from the office of the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India.
It has been said in the advisory that the risk of infection can be reduced with some common steps. The advisory states, “Good ventilation reduces the risk of corona spreading from one person to another.” Just as the stench reduces when opening a window, the risk of infection from open doors, open windows and exhaust fans can be reduced. ”
“This reduces the viral load and reduces the possibility of spreading the infection from one person to another. Ventilation in homes and offices works as a collective protection against infection. ” This advisory recommends outside air movement to offices, homes and public places. The virus spreads more through droplets and aerosols. Droplets can go up to two meters in the air while aerosols can travel up to 10 meters with air.

Both droplets and aerosols originate from human sneezing, coughing, spitting, or speaking. When a person is infected, the virus can also infect others through them. It has also been said in the advisory that in the room where the windows and doors are closed due to AC, the risk of infection is high. The outside air is not allowed to enter the closed room, due to which the infected air remains inside the room.
According to the World Health Organization, droplets, the size of a microscopic particle coming out of the mouth, are five to 10 micrometers, while aerosols are smaller than five micrometers. Both have the ability to spread infection. There is a difference in size between the two. The advisory states that cross ventilation is very important to prevent infection. Hospitals have also been told that there is a need to place cross ventilation at the place of vaccination.

The WHO said, “The evidence so far suggests that corona infection is mainly spread by contact with two individuals.” This contact is dangerous even at a distance of one meter. The aerosols or droplets of an infected person can be infected by entering through another person’s eye, nose or mouth. ” According to the WHO, infection is also spread by touching the viral wall or surface. After touching the surface or wall, people carry their finger to the eye, nose or mouth, then the infection is certain to spread.
