Read in Hindi | In order to reduce the difficulty in the treatment of Bhopal Gas Survivors, the Madhya Pradesh government has finally opened the doors of AIIMS Bhopal. Now Bhopal Gas Tragedy survivors who are suffering from diseases like Cancer get treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Bhopal.

Earlier, the survivors of the Bhopal gas tragedy were able to get treatment only in Gas Relief Hospitals and selected private hospitals.

Health Minister Vishwas Sarang took this decision in a meeting held on Tuesday with senior AIIMS officials. AIIMS is Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, which will benefit Gas Peedits. Earlier there was no separate facility for the treatment of gas victims in the AIIMS Hospital. With this decision, gas victims battling cancer will now get the right treatment.

MP High Court directed Govt. to provide free treatment of cancer in AIIMS to Gas Tragedy survivors

The government has taken this decision a year after the direction of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

On 23 September 2021, the Jabalpur High Court, while hearing the petition of Bhopal Gas Peedit Mahila Udyog Sangathan and Nagrik Upbhokta Manch, had said that free treatment should be arranged in Bhopal AIIMS for the victims of the Bhopal gas tragedy who are suffering from cancer.

Let us tell you that on December 3, 1984, there was a leakage of methyl isocyanate gas from Union Carbide Factory in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, in which thousands of people died and many people became victims of serious diseases due to exposure to the gas. For the treatment of these victims, separate gas relief hospitals were built in Bhopal. But there has always been an allegation of not getting the right treatment in these hospitals.
