In Arunachal Pradesh, mandatory ‘Inner-Line Permits’ have been introduced for tourists arriving from outside, enabling the government to regulate and monitor tourist numbers effectively. The Arunachal Pradesh government disclosed this initiative in its report submitted to the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
Furthermore, the report highlights significant strides the state government took in managing solid and liquid waste. Arunachal Pradesh is embarking on projects to construct Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) in thirteen cities, aimed at enhancing waste management practices. Additionally, sewage treatment plants are being established in strategic locations such as Chimphu, Itanagar (Yagamso River), Nabharlagun, Pasighat, and Namsai through various government schemes.
Action plans have been put in place and are currently being carried out to improve waste management practices in Arunachal Pradesh. These plans aim to address existing gaps in waste management and are being implemented across various districts under the guidance of Deputy Commissioners.
The Arunachal Pradesh government has taken steps to safeguard the environment in protected areas of the state. Eco Sensitive Zones (ESZ) have already been designated for Mauling National Park, Dibang Wildlife Sanctuary, and Ken Wildlife Sanctuary.
Currently, proposals for ESZ designation in other protected areas are being reviewed by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) for final notification in five cases. The progress of ESZ notification is underway as per the latest report.
