Who is BD Mishra new LG of Ladakh?

The President of India on Sunday appointed Brig. (Dr) BD Mishra, Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, as Deputy Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh.

In an official statement, the President’s Secretariat announced the appointment of BD Mishra as the new LG of Ladakh to replace RK Mathur.

The statement also said that the president accepted the resignation of Mathur, who was appointed as the first LG in October 2019.

The appointment of an apolitical governor in Ladakh is seen as an important step as the region seeks statehood and constitutional guarantees under the sixth schedule of the Indian Constitution.

Who is BD Mathur

BD Mishra, a former Brigadier in the Indian Army and former Commander of the National Security Guard (NSG) Anti-Kidnapping Force, popularly known as the Black Cat Commandos, has been the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh.

BD Mishra, a former Brigadier in the Indian Army and current Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, has been appointed as the LG of Ladakh. BD Mathur retired as a brigadier general after spending more than three decades in the Indian Army.

He has served in the Sino-Indian war, the 1971 liberation war and the 1965 war with Pakistan. He played a role in fighting the Naga insurgency movement in 1963-1964 in Nagaland.

The retired brigadier also fought against the LTTE as the Leading Brigade Commander of the Indian Peacekeeping Force in Jaffna, Vavunia and Trincomalee in Sri Lanka during the period of 1987-1988.

After his retirement, he too volunteered for the 1999 Kargil War.
