Umaisar Gull Ganie | For the first time, a remote village in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district can access clean, potable water. This remarkable achievement is credited to the Jal Jeevan Mission, which linked the village to a water source, effectively ending the villagers’ prolonged wait for such a basic amenity.
An official from the Jal Shakti Department has informed the Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that, for the first time, residents of Peer Mohalla in Khur Batpora are the recipients of piped water under the JJM scheme. Undeterred by the sub-zero temperatures, department personnel tirelessly worked to connect the village to the nearest water source through a pipeline.
Additionally, the villagers expressed their appreciation to the responsible department, articulating that their worries over the quality of drinking water have been alleviated.
Abdul Rehman, a resident, shared the arduous situation they faced, especially during winters, due to the lack of clean, potable water.
“We’re truly relieved now that our long wait for piped water has come to an end, turning our dream into a reality,” he expressed.
Shoaib Mubarak, Assistant Engineer from the Jal Shakti Department in Damhal-Hanjipora, affirmed to KNO that the department has met a longstanding demand of the villagers. This advancement is set to positively impact approximately two dozen families.
