Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman termed the rising prices of petrol and diesel as “a crisis of religion for the government”.
She said that “they understand the needs of consumers, but the increased prices of petroleum products should be given to both the central and state government” We should talk together because the profits from their sales are shared between the two.

On Friday at an event of the Indian Women’s Press Corps, he said, “When the central government collects revenue through the tax on oil or excise duty, 41 percent of that goes to the states. In such a situation, to say that only the central government is responsible for the rising price of oil is not right. Therefore, I suggest that the Central Government and the State Governments should sit and talk about it.”
When asked if he had talked to the government of any state about this? So he said that “till now he has not discussed about it with any state”.

It is worth noting that a large part of the prices of petrol and diesel are due to the taxes of the Central and State Governments.
In Delhi, petrol which is being sold above Rs 90 a liter, about 50 rupees tax has to be paid. That is why there is a demand that tax on petrol and diesel should be cut.
Will petrol-diesel be included in GST? On this, the Finance Minister said, “GST Council can consider this.”

During this time, the finance minister also talked about the income tax department’s raid at the locations of filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and actress Taapsee Pannu.
He said, “When the income tax department had red in the previous government, it was fine and when there is red in this government, it is wrong. These are the same people who were raided here in 2013 as well. But it was not an issue then, which is now being made an issue.”
