Ground Report | New Delhi: Assembly bypoll for West Bengal; By-elections have been announced for three seats in West Bengal and one in Odisha assembly on September 30. The three seats in West Bengal where by-elections are to be held include Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Bhawanipur assembly seat.
Apart from Bhawanipur, votes are also to be cast in Shamsherganj and Jangipur assembly seats of Bengal. Also, polling will be held on the same day in the Pipli seat of Odisha.

Assembly bypoll for West Bengal
The Election Commission said on Saturday that the counting of votes would be conducted on October 3. According to the Election Commission, the last date for filing nominations is on September 13 and candidates will be able to withdraw their nominations till September 16.

Mamata Banerjee had lost the assembly elections from Nandigram seat to BJP candidate Shubhendu Adhikari. To remain on the post of Chief Minister, it has become necessary for her to win the assembly elections.
The state election to be held in seven constituencies are, Jangipur in Murshidabad and Smsserganj 24 Gosaba in South Parganas, Kharagpur in South mednipur, Dinhata in Santipur, Cooch Behar Nadia and bhawanipur. Due to the threat looming over Mamata Banerjee’s chair, TMC was repeatedly demanding an early by-election from the Election Commission.
Deadline is till November 5
TMC was united day and night to hold the by-election on Mamta’s seat. The reason was that if Mamata Banerjee could not become a member of the Legislative Assembly by November 5, she would have to step down from the post of Chief Minister.
As the date was drawing near, the Trinamool Congress’s restlessness was increasing. BJP was opposing the by-election citing Corona.
