The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a petition by Wasim Rizvi, former chairman of the UP Shia Waqf Board, to remove 26 verses from the Holy Quran.
The Supreme Court imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Rizvi, terming the petition as completely foolish.

The case was heard by a bench of Justices RF Nariman, BR Gavai and Hrishikesh Roy. Justice Nariman said, “Are you really filing a petition?” This is a foolish petition. The petition would have been dismissed with a cost of Rs 50,000. “
Rizvi demanded the removal of 26 verses from the Quran, alleging that he “preached violence against Nastiko”.

Advocate RK Raizada, appearing on behalf of Rizvi, told the court that the petition was “limited to madrasas and institutions recognized by the government”.
“Young children who are in school for a few hours every day should not be taught the literal interpretation of violent verses,” he said. “My case is that hatred should not be promoted under Article 25 of the Constitution. ” he adds.

Rizvi said that in the madrasas, children are being taught these verses of the Quran. Because of this, his stance is moving towards fundamentalism.
The petition said that violence has been taught in these 26 verses of the Quran. And any training that advances terrorism should be stopped.
An FIR was lodged in Bareilly against Rizvi for hurting the religious sentiments of Muslims with her petition in the Supreme Court last month.
