MP Balram Talab Yojana 2023: Farmers get support to build ponds

According to the first census of water bodies, Madhya Pradesh has around 36,628 ponds in use. Out of which 18,614 are used for irrigation. Then, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched MP Balram Talab Yojna 2023 which focuses on providing support up to 1 lakh rupees for the farmers to build ponds on their farmland.

Aim of the scheme

MP Balram Talab Yojna 2023 aims to reduce the water shortage for irrigation, especially in the summer months. During situations like drought or low rainfall, the ponds could help farmers to use stored rainwater for irrigation.

Under this scheme, farmers are provided grants for the construction of ponds in their fields. The Agriculture Department implements this scheme. Under this scheme, the department has set a target to benefit as many farmers at the district and block levels.

Eligibility

Under the schemes issued in the state in the financial year 2017-18 and thereafter, only those farmers who have installed drip or sprinkler sets in their fields can construct a pond in their fields and at present this field should be in working condition. Verification of the land will be done by the Conservation Survey Officer.

The applicant farmer must have his cultivable land to get the grant for building a pond. Under this scheme, grants are not provided for the construction of ponds on agricultural land taken on lease.

The farmer must be a permanent resident of Madhya Pradesh. Farmers belonging to all categories are eligible to apply under MP Balram Talab Yojana 2023.

Benefits

The benefit of the scheme will be given to all categories of farmers. Under the MP Balram Talab Yojna, up to 75% grant will be provided to the farmers of the lower income category for construction of the pond, which will be up to a maximum of Rs 1 lakh.  If the cost of construction of a pond is more than Rs 1 lakh, then the farmer will have to bear that expense himself.

Under this scheme, middle-income category farmers will be given a grant of up to 40% for pond construction, which will be up to a maximum of Rs 80 thousand. If the cost of pond construction is more than Rs 80 thousand, the farmer will have to bear that expense himself.

The farmers can apply on the official website of the Farmer Welfare and Agricultural Development Department to avail of the scheme with the required documents like an Aadhar card, identity proof, bank details and passport-size photo.
