Kashmiri students attacked Ayush Gupta, an engineering student from Gulabpur, and his peers at Mewar University in Gangrar, Chittorgarh for celebrating the successful landing of Chandrayaan 3. India’s lunar mission on 23 August was widely celebrated across the country, and they also rejoiced on this momentous occasion.

The reports state that authorities deployed a heavy police force outside the campus in response to the scuffle. Currently, the situation at the site is under control. University Director Harish Gurnani issued a statement in the matter and mentioned that a minor issue escalated into a clash.

Violent Clash In Mewar University

“The Director of the University said, ‘A clash occurred as a minor issue escalated. An argument started over the placement of senior and junior students in the line during dinner in the mess, which further escalated. Emotions flared, and slogans were raised by Kashmiri students. The police have taken some students into custody. The university administration has formed a committee to conduct an investigation, and they will take appropriate actions following it.”

Ayush Sharma raised pro-India slogans like Bharat Mata ki Jai and Vande Mataram along with other students in the mess while having food when the Vikram lander of the Chandrayaan-3 mission successfully made a soft landing on the lunar surface. Some other students also joined him in the celebrations. However, some Kashmiri students present there were not happy with this celebration and objected to the same.

An argument between the two groups was led to. But it took a violent turn when 10 to 12 Kashmiri students assaulted them with sharp weapons to illustrate their displeasure. Ayush Sharma along with another youngster suffered significant injuries as a result. They somehow managed to escape from there after which doctors admitted them to a hospital in Gangrar. The doctors referred the former to Udaipur.

Another massive group of agitated mob entering the campus was also shown in such a video. People could hear them sloganeering against the Kashmiri students. However, Ground Report does not claim authenticity of these videos.

Police presence was deployed outside university

The police received information about the incident, arrived at the scene, and successfully resolved the conflict. Notably, they dispatched a substantial police presence outside the university premises during this period. They have effectively put current security measures in place, ensuring the maintenance of order.

According to the police statement, two First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed regarding the matter. Shrawan Das, Gangrar Deputy Superintendent of Police, disclosed, “A total of 36 students, including 20 from Kashmir, have been apprehended for disrupting the peace. The altercation transpired as students were lining up for meals at the cafeteria, leading to a confrontation between certain individuals.”

Das elaborated, “Subsequently, these individuals called in their respective groups, resulting in injuries sustained by six to seven students. Our records show the registration of two separate FIRs. Additional law enforcement personnel have been dispatched and the situation is now well-contained.” He also noted that the institution currently accommodates 600 Kashmiri students.
