Ground report | New Delhi: Who Is Nafeesa Attari; An FIR has been lodged against a Udaipur teacher after being expelled from her job for expressing happiness over Pakistan’s victory in the T20 World Cup between India and Pakistan on Sunday.

On the other hand, in another similar case, two youths in Jodhpur have been arrested by the police after the FIR was registered.

Controversy over WhatsApp status

A private school teacher in Udaipur wrote on WhatsApp status with a picture of the Pakistani player, ‘Jeet Gaye we won’. The father of a student of the school saw this status of the teacher. She messaged the teacher and asked, do you support Pakistan? To this, the teacher replied- Yes!

This is where the controversy escalated. The local journalist told on the condition of anonymity that, this chat of teacher Nafisa Attari and screenshots of her status were made available to a local channel, after which the matter came into the limelight.

The school issued a letter expelling Nafisa.

The letter issued from the school reads, “Neerja Modi School teacher Nafisa Attari has been expelled from the school with immediate effect as per the decision of the meeting of Sojatia Charitable Trust.” In this matter, the school’s director Mahendra Sojatia told the BBC, “I got information about this from social media. Modi school does not tolerate such things at all.”

Udaipur’s Ambamata police station officer Dalpat Singh Rathod said, “An FIR has been registered in this matter only on Tuesday. FIR has been registered on the complaint of some organisations. We are investigating the matter.” “An FIR has been registered under section 153 (b) of IPC for inciting religious sentiments. No arrest has been made yet.”

Nafisa has presented her side by releasing a video since the matter caught fire. She said, “While we were watching the match, we had divided two teams at home. And we were sporting our own team. It did not mean that I am sporting Pakistan.”

“Someone messaged me that you are supporting Pakistan, during that time there was a joke going on. I thought laughter was a message of a joke, so I told them ‘yes.” “It doesn’t mean anywhere that I support Pakistan. I am Indian, I love India and I love India as much as you all.”

“I want to apologize to all of you that I didn’t mean anything like that. I’m very sorry for offending anyone.” Apart from this incident, two youths of Jodhpur have also been arrested by the police for celebrating the victory of Pakistan. (Who Is Nafeesa Attari)

A case has also been registered against the teacher under section 153 (abetment with intent to cause riot) of the Indian Penal Code. The teacher later deleted her post and also issued a video statement apologizing for the post. She said that she did not intend to hurt anyone’s sentiments. ‘Someone messaged me and asked if you support Pakistan’.

As there were emojis in the message and it was an atmosphere of fun, I replied ‘yes’. But, it does not mean anywhere that I support Pakistan. I am an Indian and I love India. I love India as much as everyone else does,” Attari said in the video message. She also revealed that She and her family members were supporting different teams while watching the match. Her comments did not mean that she supported Pakistan.
