The deaths from COVID-19 in India are truly terrifying, overnight 1,761 people have died from the second wave of covid-19 virus.
This is the highest number of daily deaths when large parts of the country, are under lockdown and shortages of hospital beds and oxygen began to occur.
The world’s second most populous country is grappling with its biggest public health emergency after lowering its guard when the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection fell to its lowest point in months in February.

Today, the local Ministry of Health reported 259,170 new cases of infection, which is the highest daily number of cases in the world.
India has reported a daily number of infection cases over 200,000 over the past six days. The total number of COVID-19 cases in India currently stands at 15.32 million, second only to the United States.
Delhi, the capital city that has seen a spike in cases, started a six-day lockdown last night in hopes of officials that the move would slow transmission of the virus and reduce pressure on health infrastructure.

People in Delhi and in Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state, issued desperate calls for help on Twitter, where they asked for help getting their families to hospital. Others reported severe shortages of oxygen and the antiviral drug Remdesivir.
“(A) monumental tragedy of epic proportions is unfolding across India. There are no hospital beds, no oxygen, no vaccinations, “said Manish Tewari, an opposition lawmaker, on Twitter.

Several major cities are already reporting a significantly greater number of cremations and burials under the COVID-19 protocol than the official death toll from the virus. The reports were sourced from crematorium and funeral workers, local media and reviews of government data.
On Tuesday, the health ministry reported 259,170 new infections, a sixth day over 200,000 and getting closer to the peak of nearly 300,000 seen in the United States in January.
Total coronavirus cases in India are now at 15.32 million, second only to the United States, with epidemiologists saying far more infectious new variants were one of the main factors behind the latest surge in cases.
