Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has gone to Dhaka to attend the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Bangladesh’s independence, said that everyone respects Indira Gandhi’s contribution in the formation of Bangladesh, her efforts in the formation of this country are not to be forgotten. That Bangladesh’s struggle for independence was one of the first movements of his life.

He said that “At the age of 20-22 years, along with many colleagues, I had done Satyagraha for the freedom of Bangladesh and also gave my arrest in support of it.”

Modi said that ‘I have also traveled to jail for Bangladesh’. Regarding Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he said that his leadership had decided that no power could keep Bangladesh.

Earlier, just before the Prime Minister left for Bangladesh last week, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib was announced to give the Gandhi Peace Prize of 2020.

Prime Minister Modi said, “Today I salute the brave soldiers of the Indian Army who stood with Bangladesh in the liberation war”.

He also remembered the brave soldiers who made the dream of forming Bangladesh by shedding their blood and sacrifice in this fight. The Prime Minister said that it is a happy coincidence that 50 years of independence of Bangladesh and 75 years of independence of India come together has come. 

He further said that the next 25 years are enough for both our countries. On Friday, the ceremony was held at the National Parade Square in Dhaka.

Bangladesh is currently celebrating the 50th anniversary of its formation and the birth centenary of Prime Minister Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Modi has thanked the President of Bangladesh, Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the citizens of the country for inviting them to this program.
