The weather in Himachal Pradesh is expected to remain clear today and tomorrow. However, a Western Disturbance (WD) will become active from February 15, leading to possible rain and snowfall in the higher regions on February 16 and 17. While these areas may experience precipitation, the rest of the state is likely to see clear skies.
On February 18, the high and mid-altitude areas of the state may witness rain and snowfall. The prolonged dry spell in Himachal Pradesh is expected to break on February 19, bringing widespread rain and snowfall across the state.
The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for a cold wave in Una, Hamirpur, and Bilaspur districts. These regions may experience severe cold conditions, particularly during the night and early morning hours.
Due to the cold wave, temperatures have fallen significantly in several parts of the state, especially during the night. In many cities, the minimum temperature has dropped 5 degrees below normal. Una recorded a minimum temperature of 1.2 degrees Celsius after a sharp drop of 4.5 degrees from the usual level.
In some areas, temperatures have plunged below freezing. The minimum temperature in Tabo dropped to -9.9 degrees, while Kukumsari recorded -5.1 degrees, Keylong -7.6 degrees, and Kalpa -3.2 degrees. Most cities in the state experienced a temperature drop in the last 24 hours.
The Meteorological Department has reported a significant rainfall deficit this winter. From January 1 to February 13, Himachal Pradesh typically receives 126.5 mm of rain, but this year, only 29.6 mm has been recorded—a 77% decline from the usual level.
With rain and snowfall predicted in the coming days, residents and tourists should stay updated on weather conditions and take necessary precautions against the cold wave.
