Former Assam Chief Minister and Congress leader Tarun Gogoi died on Monday afternoon. 86-year-old Tarun Gogoi was cured after the covid-19 infection last month, but after that he was surrounded by complications after the disease.
Confirming this, Assam Health Minister Hemanta Biswa Sarma said that Tarun Gogoi breathed his last at GMCH at 5:34 pm. The body of Tarun Gogoi will be kept in Shankardev Kalakshetra on Tuesday for the last glimpse of the people. He will be cremated with full state honors. “
Expressing grief over the death of Gogoi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called him a popular leader and a skilled administrator.
Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi termed him a true Congress leader and said that he spent his entire life in bringing the people of Assam together.
He was admitted to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and was kept on ventilator for the last two days due to his condition being critical.
After the news of his condition deteriorating on Monday morning, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal reached Guwahati by postponing all his programs in Dibrugarh.
