Ground Report | New Delhi: Bipin Rawat died in a helicopter; India’s first Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) Bipin Rawat and his wife have passed away. He died in a helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu. Indian Air Force has given this information on Twitter.
A total of 14 people were aboard this helicopter, out of which 13 have died. Group Captain Varun Singh has been injured in this accident. He is being treated. The helicopter accident happened on Wednesday near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu.
Several leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, army and ex-servicemen have expressed grief over the death of General Rawat and others. The Pakistan Army and the US Embassy in India have also expressed deep condolences.

Prime Minister Modi wrote on Twitter, “I am deeply saddened by the helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu in which we lost General Bipin Rawat, his wife and other Armed Forces personnel. He served India with full dedication. My sympathies are with the families of those who died.
According to the Indian Air Force, it was a Mi-17V5 helicopter. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh visited Bipin Rawat’s house earlier in the day and met his family members.
After this, Army Chief MM Naravane also reached Bipin Rawat’s house.
General Rawat was appointed as the country’s first Chief of Defense Staff on January 1, 2020.
The Air Force has informed that an inquiry has been ordered to find out the cause of the accident.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has expressed condolences to those killed in the helicopter crash. He has prayed for the speedy recovery of Group Captain Varun Singh. He is being treated.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has expressed grief over the demise of General Rawat and his wife. In his message posted on Twitter, he has said that they worked together in the last few years. He has described the death of General Rawat as a ‘big loss of the country’.
Expressing grief over the death of General Rawat, Home Minister Amit Shah has said that his contribution ‘cannot be described in words’.
The Pakistan Army has also expressed grief over the death of General Rawat.
According to a Pakistan Army spokesperson, Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and General Nadeem Raza have expressed grief over the death of General Rawat and his wife in the helicopter crash. (Bipin Rawat died in a helicopter)
