A senior geologist Prathima KS, with the Department of Mines and Geology in Bengaluru, known for her crackdown on illegal mining and sand mafia, was found murdered at her residence on Sunday morning. The Bengaluru Police arrested Kiran, Pratima’s driver.

Reportedly, the accused admitted to the murder and disclosed that he committed the crime out of anger and frustration from losing his job. He confessed to killing her because she had fired him.

An escalating dispute between Pratima and Kiran is what can trace the motive behind this brutal murder back to. Pratima decided to terminate Kiran’s employment about a week before the tragic incident, which apparently sparked his anger. Kiran then entered Pratima’s home to commit the horrifying act before he fled the scene. The police are getting ready to present Kiran in court for legal proceedings.

Reports suggest that Kiran, the accused in this case, has admitted to the murder. He has disclosed that he lost his job, which led to his anger and frustration. Authorities have not disclosed the victim’s identity yet, and they are yet to reveal details about their professional relationship.

Someone found Prathima, who lived on the 13th floor of VV Towers in Gokul Nagar of Doddakallasandra, with her throat slit, indicating that someone had strangled her and then killed her. People believe that the murder took place between 8 pm and 8.30 pm on Saturday.

Investigators have identified a suspect known to Prathima and are currently probing multiple angles, including her recent actions against illegal mining and a potential family dispute. The police have also not ruled out the involvement of someone close to her, as there were no signs of forced entry into her flat.

“Pratima was a very dynamic woman, and she was very brave as well. Regardless of whether it was a raid or any other action, she built a great reputation within the department. Recently, she conducted raids on a few places,” Dinesh, a senior officer of the Karnataka Environment Department, said in a quote to NDTV.

“She didn’t earn any enemies. According to the new rules, she carried out her work excellently and established a respected reputation,” he added. Unidentified assailants who broke into her house stabbed Prathima, said the police as reported by India Today.

Reports claim that her husband was visiting his hometown along with their son, leaving her alone at home when the murder took place. According to sources cited by India Today, last month, they gave Prathima orders to conduct raids on illegal mining activities.”

“Forensic and technical teams are working on the spot. The authorities have formed three teams for the investigation. “We will share further information once we exactly determine what happened,” said a police official, as reported by the news agency PTI.

Prathima had recently received orders to conduct raids on illegal mining activities. Furthermore, her colleagues remember her as a dynamic and brave woman who earned a great reputation in the department. “She didn’t make any enemies. In addition, according to the new rules, she did her work well and earned a great name,” said Dinesh, a senior officer of the Karnataka Environment Department.

Murder investigation in Bengaluru ongoing

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Rahul Kumar Shahapurwad stated that Prathima, who has worked in the city for the past four years, came home from work around 8 pm on Saturday. “We suspect someone might have murdered her at night. We have formed three teams to conduct the investigations,” said Shahapurwad.

“Satheesh Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police (West), said, “We have got clues about the suspect and it would take time to conclude. We are conducting a probe.”

When Prathima’s elder brother, Pratish, a civic contractor, visited her house around 8 am on Sunday because she did not respond to his phone calls from Saturday night, he discovered the murder. The police, who ruled out murder for gain, confirmed they were investigating several possibilities, including her actions against illegal mining and a suspected family dispute.

The cops stated that they were considering the possibility that an acquaintance of hers might be involved because no signs indicated forced entry into her flat. Prathima lived in Bengaluru, while her husband lived in Shivamogga. Their son is studying in class 10.

Suspicions indicate that the murder took place between 8pm and 8.30pm on Saturday, shortly after Prathima’s department driver dropped her home using an office vehicle. The driver left the vehicle near her house and returned home on his bike. Rahul Kumar Shahapurwad, DCP (south), stated: “We can’t confirm if one person or more committed the murder.”
