Ground Report | New Delhi: What is Operation Snow Leopard; Lt. Gen. Yogesh Kumar Joshi, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command, said that there had been a “reduction in militancy-related incidents, rock-throwing activities and protests” thanks to the tireless efforts security forces and the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Operation still ongoing
Army Commander said that 2021 was a watershed year for the Armed Forces wherein they displayed boldness in standing up to the aggressive designs on the Line of Control (LoC) and Line of Actual Control (LAC).
General Joshi was speaking at the Northern Command Investiture Ceremony at the Northern Command Headquarters in Udhampur today, for their outstanding and distinguished overall performance in the Theater of Command.
Operation Snow Leopard is still ongoing with troops on high alert and ready for any eventuality as the disengagement in Ladakh continues to be a focus of talks, Lt Gen Joshi said. He presented GOC-in-C Appreciation to 40 units and GOC-in-C Appreciation Certificates to 26 units for outstanding and distinguished performance in the theater of command.
“The importance of the union territories of J&K and Ladakh is well known and we have played our part in regard to the security of this region with complete devotion and devotion and maintain our complete dominance, whether it s the Line of Control, Line of Actual Control (LAC), Line of Actual Ground Position (AGPL) and International Border (IB),” the army commander said in his address.
What is Operation Snow Leopard
The Indian army launched Operation Snow Leopard after China failed to backtrack and restore the status quo ante in eastern Ladakh. Colonel Santosh Babu was awarded Mahavir Chakra posthumously for resisting the attack of the Chinese army in the Galwan Valley in the Ladakh sector during Operation Snow Leopard. Colonel Babu was the commander of the 16th Bihar Regiment, which was deployed to the Galwan Valley for the operation.
Operation Snow Leopard was launched by the military which increased deployment at strategic heights along the LAC to oversee Chinese troops.
