Rain returned to many parts of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday, disrupting normal life in several districts. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for the entire state, warning of light to moderate rainfall in the next 24 hours.
Bhopal, Indore, and Jabalpur are expected to see showers today, while heavy rain lashed Dhar and Barwani on Sunday. Crops were damaged in Sendhwa after fields flooded, and a mud house collapsed in the area.
Rain likely on Dussehra
A new weather system is expected to become active from October 1, bringing more rain across Madhya Pradesh. The department said there is a high chance of showers on October 2, when Dussehra will be celebrated.
The monsoon had already started retreating from Madhya Pradesh, with 12 districts officially out of its reach, including Gwalior, Morena, Bhind, Datia, Sheopur, and Ratlam. Normally, the monsoon withdraws from the state by October 6.
But due to the formation of a fresh low-pressure system, the process may be delayed this year.
Madhya Pradesh has received more rainfall than normal in this monsoon season. Against an average of 37.2 inches, the state recorded 45 inches of rainfall, which is 122 percent of the seasonal average.
Guna district received the highest rainfall at 65.5 inches, while Mandla and Raisen recorded more than 62 inches. On the other hand, Shajapur, Khargone, Khandwa, Barwani, and Dhar remained the driest districts.
Rainfall recorded in districts
On Sunday, over half an inch of rain fell in Narsinghpur. Showers were also reported in Betul, Pachmarhi, Ratlam, Ujjain, Chhindwara, Damoh, Jabalpur, Mandla, Sagar, and Seoni.
The Indore division, which earlier faced a deficit, has now reached normal levels due to heavy showers in September. But Ujjain division is still below its expected rainfall quota, with Shajapur ranking lowest.

Officials said the situation would remain unstable for the next few days. The new system could extend rainfall into the first week of October, complicating both harvest and festival plans.
