The Delhi government has introduced an internship initiative to involve youth in environmental and wildlife. The launch of the internship portal took place at the Polo Ground of Delhi University during the fourth Van Mahotsav ceremony.

Delhi’s Environment Minister, Gopal Rai, inaugurated the online portal. The program’s objective is to familiarize college students with the Department of Forest and Wildlife’s operations.

Interested college students can apply for internships through the website: https://internship.eforest.delhi.gov.in.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to students from recognized schools, institutions, and universities.
  • Preference given to those with a clear internship purpose statement.
  • Age should be 18 years or more.
  • Educational Qualifications:

For Science, Forestry, Ecology, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, and related fields

  • Second year and above of Bachelor’s or integrated 5-year course.
  • Higher secondary in the Science stream.

Commerce, Economics, and Management:

  • BA/B.Sc./MA/M.Sc. (Economics).
  • Students in 5-year integrated economics programs.
  • MBA.

For Law

  • Second and third year of Bachelor’s in Law or integrated five-year course.
  • LLM.

For Higher Secondary

  • Higher secondary in Science and Commerce streams.

Procedure for Application

  • Apply online on the Department of Forests and Wildlife, GNCTD website for internship.
  • Apply at least 3 months before the desired internship period.
  • Clearly mention the preferred internship duration.
  • Specify your area of interest.
  • Choose up to 3 disciplines for application.
  • Write a Statement of Purpose (SoP) within 1000 words.
  • SoP should explain your interest, skills, and expected contributions.
  • Research Advisory Committee will decide the final topic and domain.
  • Provide documents for qualifications and enrollment in educational institutes.
  • If selected, provide a letter from your Supervisor/Head of Department/Principal.
  • Incomplete or non-compliant applications will be rejected.
  • Applications from previous Department interns won’t be considered.
  • Refer to Annexure-II for the application form format.

Selection Procedure and Modalities:

  • Applications reviewed and approved by the Research Advisory Committee of the Department of Forests & Wildlife, Government of NCT of Delhi based on merit.
  • Preference given to applicants with innovative ideas matching departmental requirements.

Terms and Conditions of Selection:

  • Each Guide (ACF rank and above) can mentor a maximum of 10 interns concurrently.
  • Interns required to write a detailed account of their work on natural resource management themes.
  • Interns may participate in related activities, like training and research, if needed.

Guidance and Reporting:

  • Each intern assigned a senior officer as a ‘Guide’.
  • The intern’s work directed by the Guide.
  • Intern submits draft report to the Guide before internship ends.
  • Presentation before the Department required after Guide’s clearance.

Internship Conduct and Responsibilities:

  • Interns work within Department premises during working hours.
  • Department supports interns for successful completion.
  • Internship results are the Department’s intellectual property.

Discontinuation and Claims:

  • Internship may end if performance isn’t satisfactory.
  • No job claims in Department after internship.
  • Department reserves the right to review and will update the scheme on its website.
