The Union Cabinet approved new rail lines between Ratlam-Nagda in Madhya Pradesh and Wardha-Balharshah in Maharashtra. These projects will save fuel, cut emissions, and boost rail connectivity in MP and Maharashtra by 2029

The total cost of both projects is estimated at ₹3,399 crore. The Railway Ministry plans to complete them by 2029–30. The projects aim to improve train connectivity and make travel and freight transport faster and smoother.

The new lines will cover around 176 kilometers and pass through four districts in MP and Maharashtra. These districts include hundreds of villages. Around 19.74 lakh people will directly benefit from better transport options. The rail network will improve access to schools, hospitals, markets, and jobs.

The government expects the projects to generate about 74 lakh days of work during construction. This will create jobs for local workers and support rural families. The added rail capacity will also help industries by easing the movement of goods.

The Railway Ministry says the projects will support climate goals by cutting logistics costs, saving 20 crore litres of diesel, and reducing CO2 emissions by 99 crore kilograms. That’s equal to planting 4 crore trees.

The projects fall under the PM Gati Shakti Master Plan. This plan aims to improve road, rail, and other transport networks across India through better coordination. The new lines will reduce congestion, cut travel time, and improve the overall efficiency of the railway system.

The government says these projects will boost the local economy, support small businesses, and strengthen India’s logistics system. Once completed, the new rail lines will help both passengers and industries move faster and more reliably.

The Railway Ministry has promised that work will begin soon. With better infrastructure, more jobs, and cleaner transport, these projects are expected to bring long-term benefits to both Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
