A heavy rain alert has been issued in Madhya Pradesh for the next three days. The Meteorological Department said water is expected in Indore and Jabalpur divisions, while Bhopal may also see rainfall.

On Saturday, heavy rains are likely in Dhar, Barwani, Khargone, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Betul, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Seoni and Balaghat.

In Tikamgarh, clouds covered the sky from morning and rain began early. The Tawa Dam is filling rapidly after downpours in Pachmarhi and surrounding catchment areas. To manage rising levels, one gate of the dam was opened up to 5 feet at 6 a.m. on Saturday. Light rain continued in Itarsi and nearby areas through Friday night.

Heavy Rain Alert in Madhya Pradesh

The monsoon has already left 11 districts, including Gwalior, Sheopur, Morena, Bhind, Datia, Shivpuri, Guna, Agar-Malwa, Neemuch, Mandsaur and Ratlam. It has also begun to retreat from parts of Ujjain, Rajgarh and Ashoknagar.

Despite this withdrawal, many districts continue to see rainfall. On Friday, it rained in Chhindwara, Damoh, Jabalpur, Mandla, Narsinghpur, Rewa, Satna, Seoni, Sidhi, Umria, Balaghat and Pachmarhi. Pachmarhi recorded more than half an inch of rain.

This year the monsoon arrived in Madhya Pradesh on June 16, a day later than usual. Normally it retreats by September 30, but this year it started withdrawing six days earlier from some districts.

So far, the state has received 44.2 inches of rainfall, which is 119 percent of the normal quota. The average normal is 37 inches, which was already completed last week.

Indore, which had the lowest rainfall earlier this season, met its target after heavy rains in September. But Barwani, Khargone and Khandwa remain below average. Ujjain and Shajapur are also lagging behind.

In contrast, eastern parts of the state have seen strong systems. Jabalpur, Rewa, Sagar and Shahdol divisions recorded heavy rains. Gwalior and Chambal also exceeded their rainfall averages.
