The Meteorological Department has issued heavy and very heavy rain alerts for 17 districts of Madhya Pradesh. Four districts, Rewa, Mauganj, Sidhi, and Singrauli, may receive up to 8 inches of rainfall in the next 24 hours.
Meteorologist Arun Sharma explained that two cyclonic circulations and a depression system are active. “The system over eastern Madhya Pradesh will trigger widespread rainfall for the next 48 hours,” Sharma said.
An orange alert has been issued for Rewa, Mauganj, Sidhi, and Singrauli. A yellow alert covers Jabalpur, Satna, Panna, Maihar, Damoh, Katni, Umaria, Shahdol, Anuppur, Dindori, Mandla, Narsinghpur, and Chhindwara. The system is expected to weaken by Sunday, but light showers may continue.
On Thursday, Narmadapuram received more than half an inch of rain. Datia and Narsinghpur also saw similar amounts. Bhopal, Indore, Chhatarpur, Sagar, and Tikamgarh recorded drizzle.
The monsoon has already withdrawn from 12 districts, including Gwalior, Morena, and Sheopur. Officials say the entire state will see monsoon withdrawal by October 10. The delayed departure comes after strong systems kept rainfall active.
This year, Guna district recorded the highest rainfall at 65.6 inches. Mandla and Raisen followed with more than 62 inches each. Shajapur received the least at 28.9 inches.
Indore’s rainfall improved in September, helping it meet its normal quota after being among the lowest earlier this season. Ujjain still falls short of its average.
Officials have asked local administrations to stay alert. Relief and rescue teams are on standby in vulnerable areas.

Sharma added that the situation will start improving next week. “The system will gradually weaken, and conditions for monsoon withdrawal will strengthen after October 6,” he said.
For now, Madhya Pradesh faces two more days of intense rain, especially in the eastern districts. Local administrations are monitoring rivers and reservoirs closely to manage sudden rises in water levels.
