Madhya Pradesh is currently experiencing dense fog and dropping temperatures. On Monday, heavy fog affected Gwalior, Chambal, and Rewa divisions, while daytime temperatures dropped in Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, and Narmadapuram. Night temperatures have remained steady.

Foggy conditions across districts

The Meteorological Department reported dense fog in Bhind, Morena, Gwalior, Datia, Niwari, Chhatarpur, Panna, Satna, Rewa, and Mauganj. Visibility dropped to 50 meters, especially at Rewa airport. Light to moderate fog was observed in Neemuch, Mandsaur, Shivpuri, Guna, and other districts.

An orange alert for dense fog is issued for Tuesday in Bhind, Morena, Gwalior, Datia, Singrauli, and Rewa. Many areas will have reduced visibility and chilly conditions.

Temperature trends

Day temperatures dropped in over 24 districts, with Ujjain recording a 7-degree drop, making it one of the coldest cities. Indore, Dhar, and Ratlam also experienced notable declines, while Pachmarhi recorded the lowest night temperature of 7°C.

In Naugaon, the mercury dropped to 8.5°C, making it the coldest among the five recorded cities. Other areas like Mandla, Tikamgarh, and Guna recorded minimum temperatures between 8.8°C and 9.4°C.

Meteorologists expect Madhya Pradesh’s weather to remain the same for the next 24 hours. However, from Wednesday, cold northern winds may lead to colder days and nights, with a cold wave and frost likely.

A western disturbance will become active in northwest India on January 10. Its effects may bring light rainfall to some Madhya Pradesh districts starting January 12. This is expected to further drop temperatures, with the cold wave lasting until January 22.
