A sharp drop in temperature has gripped Madhya Pradesh. Cold wind moved across the state on Tuesday and kept conditions tight through the day. Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, and many nearby districts faced a cold wave. Fog also started to form in parts of the state. People in Bhopal saw fog on Tuesday evening as wind from the north pushed in.

The weather office issued a cold wave alert for many districts. These include Bhopal, Indore, Rajgarh, Jabalpur, Sehore, Dewas, Khandwa, Khargone, Dhar, Barwani, Shivpuri, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Panna, Satna, Shahdol, Katni, and Umaria. The alert stays in place for Wednesday.

Night temperature fell across the state on Monday and Tuesday. Eighteen cities stayed below ten degrees. Rajgarh recorded the lowest reading at 5.6 degrees Celsius. Pachmarhi touched 6.4 degrees. Umaria stayed at 7.6 degrees. Shivpuri touched 8 degrees. Betul recorded 8.7 degrees. Dhar reached 8.8 degrees. Malajkhand had 8.9 degrees. Khandwa stayed at 9.4 degrees. Chhindwara recorded 9.5 degrees. Khargone and Mandla marked 9.6 degrees.

Big cities also saw a sharp shift. Bhopal warmed by three degrees after breaking an eighty-four-year record the night before, when the city touched 5.2 degrees Celsius. Indore recorded 7.7 degrees. Gwalior stayed at 10.5 degrees. Ujjain reached 11 degrees. Jabalpur marked 9 degrees.

Schools in many districts changed their timings due to the drop in temperature. Jabalpur shifted classes for nursery to grade five to start after 9 am. Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, and other districts made similar moves.

Dr. Divya E. Surendran of the weather office said the sharp fall in Bhopal set a new mark for November nights. Clear skies and strong wind from the north kept pressure on the region.

A low-pressure area is forming over the southeast part of the country. This may bring more changes from November 22. The state will continue to face a cold wave for the next two days.

The first week of November stayed cold across the state. October also brought more rain than usual. Bhopal recorded a day temperature of 24 degrees Celsius on October 30, the lowest for that date in twenty-five years.
