Ground Report | New Delhi: Withdrawal of US forces; The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Srinagar-based Army’s 15 Corps, Lt Gen DP Pandey, said on Friday that the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan may allow some militants to enter Kashmir but the Army will deal with any misadventure along the Line of Control and the hinterland.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a passing out parade at Jakli Regimental Center Rangreth in Srinagar on the outskirts of Srinagar, GOC Pandey said that some people who are fond of freedom should consider that the LoC And what is the situation in Pakistan, Afghanistan border.
Withdrawal of US forces
“Whatever happened 30 years ago was a huge crisis for the people of Kashmir. Yes, there is a possibility that US forces from Afghanistan may push some militants into Kashmir,” the GOC said, as per Srinagar-based News Agency KNO. “But the situation is not what it was 30 years ago. We are ready and fully prepared to thwart all bids and face every challenge in the LoC or hinterland.”

GOC 15 Corps was responding to a question of whether the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan would result in any deterioration in Kashmir.

He said the first priority for the army is always conventional training, then counter-insurgency operations or anti-infiltration operations. “Wherever the police need us for any kind of operation, we are associating with them,” GOC Pandey said. “Our eyes are on our enemy, not on a ceasefire or a ceasefire. We are ready to face any misadventure along the LoC or in the hinterland. We are ready to respond effectively at every level.”
Balance of forces is being maintained in view of China’s position
Responding to a question that a lot of weapons are coming for the Army, the GOC said it was a normal process that is part of the annual turnover. “The balance of forces is being maintained in view of China’s position on the LAC,” he said.
The army officer said that earlier only money used to come under narco-module but now drugs are also coming. “Jammu and Kashmir Police is dealing with narco-infiltration very effectively and a lot of medicines have been seized. This is the right time for parents, civil society, and teachers to focus on children so that they stay away from drugs.

Security situation and political process two different things
Asked whether the recent talks between politicians in Jammu and Kashmir and New Delhi will have any impact on the security situation in Kashmir, GOC Pandey said the security situation and the political process are two different things. “Conversation is a continuous process which is always going on. The security situation is a separate matter which is being dealt with at different levels.”
On militancy in Kashmir, the GOC said that till the militant network goes away, there is a need for a security grid so that people come out and live in a peaceful environment. When asked about the status of infiltration along the LoC in Kashmir, he said that there has been zero infiltration so far this year but the launch pads are active. “Whatever happens on the LoC will be dealt with effectively and professionally,” he said.
