Ground Report | New Delhi: Who is Amarjit Singh; In the Kapurthala lynching case, Punjab Police on Friday arrested Amarjit Singh, the caretaker of the Gurdwara. Jalandhar Range IG Gurinder Singh Dhillon, a case of murder has been registered after arresting Granthi.

Talking to news agency PTI, IG Dhillon said, “No evidence of sacrilege has been found so far. We have added 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC by modifying the FIR already registered. Also, Amarjeet Singh, the main accused in the case, has been arrested for murder.

State Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Friday morning said that no evidence of sacrilege has been found, so the government wants to register a case of murder.

It is known that a man was lynched to death on Sunday in a gurdwara in Nizampur village of Kapurthala, Punjab. The deceased was accused of desecration of the religious flag of Sikhs.

Earlier, the Gurudwara’s granthi Amarjit Singh had posted a video claiming that he had caught a man who had come to the Gurdwara Sahib with the intention of sacrilege. Amarjeet Singh claimed that he had seen the deceased insulting the religious flag.

He had said that this person was seen in the gurdwara around four in the morning and when they tried to catch him, he ran away. Later some people searched for him and caught him and beat him up and interrogated him.

Just a day before this incident, a man was also beaten to death in the Golden Temple complex of Amritsar on the charge of sacrilege.
