Manipur Narcotics and Border Affairs former Additional Superintendent of Police Thounaojam Brinda on Friday returned his Chief Minister’s Police Medal. She was given this medal on the occasion of Patriot Day on 13 August 2018 to fight against heroism and drugs. In 2018, she arrested a high-profile drug mafia named Lukhosei Jou and his associates with a large amount of drugs. At that time the cost of drugs was said to be around 28 crores.

Jou is also an influential BJP leader of Chandel district and at that time he was the President of Chandel District Autonomous Council. But the NDPS court acquitted Jou and six others. After this, the police officer returned his medal.
According to Indian Express In a letter written to Chief Minister N Biren, police officer Brinda said that the NDPS court has acquitted BJP leader Lukhosei Jou and six others who were named in the case.

Brinda further wrote, “The investigation and prosecution of the NDPS court in this case has been deemed unsatisfactory. I feel morally that I have not done my duty as per the will of the country’s criminal justice system. I have given myself through CM I do not feel worthy of the honor, so I am returning the medal to the state home department, so that it can be given to a more qualified and loyal police officer.

“In recognition for this case as part of the honourable Chief Minister’s ‘War Against Drugs’, I was conferred the Chief Minister’s police medal for Gallantry on the occasion of Patriot’s Day in August 13, 2018. However, the investigation and prosecution have been deemed unsatisfactory by the honourable ND&PS court, Brinda stated in a letter addressed to the Chief Minister.
