Ground Report | New Delhi: Samba first district to complete; Amidst the ongoing COVID vaccination drive in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Samba has become the first district to administer the first dose of COVID vaccine to all people above the age of 18 years.

News agency KNO quoting health officials that there are around 241,000 persons in the age group of 18-44 in the district and all of them have already received the first dose of the Covid vaccine.

He said that about 78,000 (33 per cent) people have also received the second dose of Kovid vaccine and the process of vaccinating more and more people is in progress. “It was only possible due to the efforts of health workers and frontline workers, who have worked tirelessly to achieve this milestone,” the official said.

District Magistrate Samba Anuradha Gupta said that Samba district had strategically started the vaccination process from the very beginning and Samba was among the first few districts which completed the process of vaccination of all people above 45 years of age.

“Instead of waiting for people to come to us, we went to them. We had formed mobile teams to reach out to everyone. We were vaccinating above 45 age group, positivity and mortality rate started declining and people understood the importance of vaccination,” said Gupta.

She said then people over the age of 18 came on their own without any mobilization and “our efforts are on the full second dose process as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile, LG Manoj Sinha has congratulated the covid management team and health workers of Samba for their tireless efforts to complete 100% vaccination of people above 18 years of age. He expressed hope that other districts will also complete this process soon and will also complete this process.

“Congratulations to the COVID MGMT team and health care workers of Samba for their tireless effort to ensure 100% immunization for those above the age of 18 years. Samba has become the first district of J&K to achieve this milestone and I’m sure other districts will catch up soon,” LG’s office tweeted.
